Although he was already sixty years old when the series began, Andy Griffith had no trouble carrying Matlock and making it incredibly popular. This series ran for nine seasons with a total of 195 episodes. In addition to Griffith, this series also featured Nancy Stafford, Julie Sommers and Clarence Gilyard Jr.

A happier piece of trivia is that two of the series leads were actually fans of Andy Griffith when they were kids. As a result, they felt quite honored to have the opportunity to work with him.
