Our old time mate Andy Samuel Griffith is a man that has been around the entertainment industry for many years. Born in 1926 he is reaching his 84th birthday but he looks as if he might just last another 90 years with that cheeky award winning style. Andy has been an actor as well as the producer and director of many great films. Most recently he has started to become a famous gospel singer for many of the united churches around America spreading the joy of god to people everywhere through his brilliant songs.

Andy Griffith is a character that will live long in our memories and is a name that you will hear pop up now and again. Not quite as popular as he was 50 years ago with the young generation back then, Andy still has a lot of spirit in him as he tries to keep his old fans and make new ones along the way. Matlock is his most famous role which is still extremely popular with the old folks and people of retirement age. Matlock is a series that spread over two decades meaning that the fans where there to keep it alive.

The Andy Griffith Show was a comedy starring Andy as the host which was like a modern day version of entertainment tonight but with much more comedy and fun in it as he interviewed several very famous guests. In the 1960 there were famous people like the Beach Boys who performed on Andy’s show which was another reason why he was just so popular with the folks back then. Lasting for only 7 or 8 years the Andy Griffith show disappeared and his talents where then spread around other late 60s and early 70s shows.

The Andy Griffith Show is an American created sitcom that was first shown on the CBS network in the time period of October 3rd 1960 through April 1st 1968. Famous actor Andy Griffith played a widowed sheriff in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina. His life is often made complicated by his bumbling but sweet deputy Barney Fife, his aunt and housekeeper Aunt Bee as well as his young son Opie. There are all kinds of interesting characters that come in and out of his life.

During it’s eight season run neither Andy Griffith or the show won any awards. Co-stars Don Knotts and Frances Bavier however won a combined total of six Emmy Awards. The series was an enormous hit and never placed below seventh in the Nielsen Ratings and was rated number one in its last season. The show spawned a couple of spinoffs “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.” and “Mayberry R.F.D.” as well as a reunion television movie “Return to Mayberry”. The overwhelming popularity of the Andy Griffith show has meant huge sale in show related merchandise. Reruns of this classic show run all over the United States and the series is also available for sale on DVD.

Mount Airy in North Carolina holds Mayberry Days every year., there are concerts and parades as well as appearances by the shows actors.

The Andy Griffith show continues its popularity today gaining plenty of new fans through reruns and sales of Andy Griffith DVDs.
